Struktury dźwiękowe składają się z zestawów fal akustycznych o odpowiednio dobranych częstotliwościach i amplitudach oraz ciszy pomiędzy nimi. Celem muzyki jest oddziaływanie na świadomość słuchacza. Jest zjawiskiem odbieranym subiektywnie, zależnym od indywidualnych skłonności, wcześniejszych doświadczeń, społecznych kryteriów wartości, aktualnego nastroju i wielu innych czynników.
